Monthly Superyacht Refit Column by Custom Yacht Consultants Ltd

May 7, 2004 -- Each month the column will feature a current major refit/rebuild that CYC feels has elements of particular interest for readers of The Triton. These projects will be based in shipyards not only the US but Europe, Aus/NZ and elsewhere.

In addition to providing detailed technical information and photographs of the featured yacht and yard, the column will also explore other areas of the particular refit experience such as decision-making, unexpected additional repairs, nature of agreement with the yard, and any lessons learnt by the captain and yard once the work has been completed

Custom Yacht Consultants is comprised of yachting professionals and aviation/IT procurement specialists who identified a significant need in the Superyacht sector for a more structured and commercial approach to resourcing ship yards for high-expenditure refits.

Working with owner's team and using proprietary software tools, a comprehensive work specification is produced. Using these requirements CYC commences a multi-stage bid/tender process with an emphasis on fixed time and prices. This leads to final selection of a suitable yard which is then engaged with a formal service contract based on terms agreed during the tender process.
